In September 2019, PST Sport commenced works on a state-of-the-art 3G playing surface at St Francis FC’s home grounds, John Hyland Park in Baldonnel, Co. Dublin. This significant development is part of the club’s long-term plans for the future and will see the existing natural turf field replaced with our game changing artificial grass sports surface called Superb.

It was a vision that the club had for many years after seeing so many games called off due to poor weather conditions. With more games able to be played, the aim is to benefit not only the current players but the wider community for many years to come. The new pitch will open up new opportunities to the local area to get involved in sport and stay active. Another major benefit is significantly lower maintenance costs.

Sub base construction works got underway in mid-September. The project below ground is just as important as what goes on top and a well-built base is critical to pitch longevity. Through years of research and development we have developed a pioneering sub base design ensuring pitch stability for the long term and removing all uncertainty pre-construction. By working closely with our clients, we can offer a tailor-made solution unlike any other available in the market.

Phase 2 of the development will see the installation of 7,200 sq/m of SUPERB 50 artificial grass, produced by CCGrass, one of only four global manufacturers with “Preferred Producer” status for FIFA, World Rugby & FIH. At CCGrass considerable investment is made in research, enabling the world’s largest producer of artificial grass to produce the most advanced systems for sport. The polymer used in Superb
50 is stronger, softer and more resilient than used in other fibres, which helps create a great playing surface. All CCGrass pitches are heavily tested, before and after installation, ensuring St Francis FC has the best possible synthetic turf pitch.
